Miley Cyrus Is Learning ‘Street Fighting’ For ‘So Undercover’

‘I have a trainer and I have bruises everywhere,’ she tells MTV News about prepping to play a badass FBI agent. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Last week we learned that for her new film “So Undercover,” Miley Cyrus will take on the part of “a tough, street-smart private eye hired by the FBI to go undercover in a college sorority.” And while that description is accurate — and sort of awesome — it also sells the role short. As Cyrus explained to MTV News backstage at the 2010 Europe Music Awards , her character is a whole lot more than just a private eye. “She’s basically this chick who grows up as a super tomboy, and she’s an FBI agent and gets thrown into a bunch of girls that she doesn’t understand because she’s been around her dad, who’s been in the FBI his whole life,” Cyrus told us in Madrid. “And basically, by having to go undercover and be someone that she’s not, she kind of finds the person she is, because she realizes she doesn’t have to carry the weight on her shoulder of what her dad was, and she can be her own person.” And while there’s depth to the role, Cyrus is also the first to admit that there are plenty of other perks that came along with it, namely, access to a trainer who’s in the process of turning her into a badass street fighter, complete with an arsenal of moves that she’d probably love to unleash on a pesky paparazzo or two. “I’ve been actually doing all kinds of stuff. … I’ve been doing fighting, like learning how to box … mostly like street fighting, so knowing how to, like, if someone comes up from behind you, being able to defend yourself,” she said. “I have a trainer and I have bruises everywhere from, like, kicking the bags. … And I’ve learned how to use guns, which was really scary,” Cyrus admitted. “I cried the first time, I was like, ‘I’m not doing this … can’t do this movie,’ [but] then you get used to it, you get used to the feeling. You get used to, like, dropping, like he’ll like point it at you and you’ve got to drop down real quick and grab your weapon and come back up. It’s been really insane, so, it’s a more fun workout than running on a treadmill.” Production on “So Undercover” begins in December, which means that, between now and then, Cyrus is only going to get tougher and tougher — and that’s bad news for anyone who’s thinking of crossing her. “I want to learn how to do most of my own stuff,” she smiled. “Just for normal life, I think every woman should know a little self-defense.” Consider yourself warned. Miley Cyrus Turns Up Sex Appeal For EMA Performance

Singer dons lingerie-esque leotard for the awards show, which airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV2. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus performs at the 2010 EMAs on Sunday Photo: Dave Benett/Getty Images Miley Cyrus may not have gone ghetto chic like she did at the Much Music Awards earlier this year, but she certainly didn’t tone down her sex appeal one bit when she graced the stage at the 2010 MTV Europe Awards in Madrid on Sunday. Wearing a cream-colored lingerie-style leotard, Miley Cyrus performed her track “Who Owns My Heart” surrounded by female dancers in lingerie and male dancers in suits. The choreography was similar to that of her controversial clip, in which she grinds up against her dancers, male and female. “We actually came up with this concept because I wanted it to kinda be ‘Angels and Demons,’ but it’s not a Tom Hanks reference,” Cyrus told MTV News last week. “It’s [about the idea] that during this world, you’re always going to have temptation; basically that’s kind of the whole vibe.” While she remained fierce through much of the performance, she did flash a big smile when it was over. Earlier in the night, Cyrus hit the purple carpet in a white, high-cut dress adorned by a Western cowgirl bow. Cyrus, who told us she’ll be celebrating her 18th birthday with all of her family this month, was up for two EMAs. For Best Pop, she faced off against Lady Gaga, Usher, Katy Perry and Rihanna; and for Best Female, she was up against Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Shakira and Rihanna. The 2010 EMAs air on MTV2 on Sunday (November 7) at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Miley Cyrus Wants Family ‘To Be Together’ For 18th Birthday

‘I think we need time to all be together,’ teen star tells MTV News before Sunday’s MTV EMA performance. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News MADRID — On Thursday, minutes after rehearsing her performance for Sunday night’s MTV Europe Music Awards, Miley Cyrus sat down with MTV News to discuss her plans, both for the big show (think lots of “angels and demons”) and another, equally big event: her upcoming 18th birthday. Given all of the hullabaloo that’s been raised in the 24 hours since she sat down with us — Cyrus may have been photographed drinking underage in a Madrid nightclub — we figured that her 18th birthday was sort of newsworthy … since, well, the legal drinking age in Spain is 18 and all. And while Miley didn’t tell us where she’d be celebrating her 18th (it’s November 23 in case you wanted to send a card), she did mention that she hopes her whole family will be with her for the big day, something that’s equally newsworthy, given everything that’s been going on with her parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus , in recent weeks. “I’m not going to go crazy; [just] have a fun party and then maybe take a vacation with my family … because that would be really cool. I think we need time to all be together,” she said. “So that would be rad if we could all go to the beach or something. … [I have] no idea [where we're going]; somewhere near water. I’m a water baby; I have to be near the water and I love doing scuba and going out and being on a boat.” Of course, there are plenty of boats in Spain, but we’d be willing to bet she won’t be spending her 18th birthday here or in any other Spanish-speaking country, for that matter, because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from chatting with her during EMA weekend, it’s that Spanish most definitely is not her first language, nor her second or third, really. “I failed Spanish,” she laughed. “I’m really, really bad at it. It’s not really the words; it’s the pronunciation that’s the hard part.” How do you think Miley should celebrate her 18th birthday? Tell us your ideas in the comments! The 2010 EMAs will air on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Miley gets lacey and symbolic for MTV’s Europe Music Awards this Sunday. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News MADRID — Miley Cyrus blew in to Spain’s capital city from LAX on Thursday night, got up Friday morning (November 5) to rehearse her performance at the 2010 Europe Music Awards, then hopped back on a jet bound for Germany (she had a previous engagement, after all). Of course, she’ll be back on Sunday for the big show — as if you didn’t know already, she’s a pretty busy girl. But after she wrapped rehearsals — and before she got back on her plane — MTV News’s special EMA correspondent Gabe Saporta caught up with Miley for a few minutes backstage at Madrid’s Caja Magica, where she revealed a few details about her super-secret EMA performance. From the sound of things, it’s going to be a rather epic, eye-catching thing. And quite possibly based on the work of “Da Vinci Code” author Dan Brown. “We actually came up with this concept because I wanted it to kinda be ‘Angels and Demons,’ but it’s not a Tom Hanks reference,” Cyrus said (referring to the star of both of Brown’s movie adaptations). “It’s [about the idea] that during this world, you’re always going to have temptation; basically that’s kind of the whole vibe.” Cyrus added that her performance will feature some elaborate costuming, some chiropractically challenging dance moves and, of course, some symbolism. Oh, and if the whole thing seems too deep for you, that’s probably because you’re a dude. “It’s a little more Victorian,” she explained. “There’s a lot of lace. The girls are dressed all in white, and the guys are in black. … The girls will know what I’m talking about.” The 2010 EMAs will air on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Miley Cyrus, Kevin Zegers Have Otherworldly Affair In ‘The Big Bang’ Video

Cyrus and Zegers play star-crossed lovers in the Rock Mafia music video. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus and Kevin Zegers in “The Big Bang” video Photo: Filament Features Miley Cyrus and Kevin Zegers are caught up in a ghostly love affair in the video for “The Big Bang,” the new single by frequent Cyrus collaborator Rock Mafia. The clip for the soul-tinged track stars Cyrus and Zegers as two lovebirds who have been torn apart by a terrible accident. Or have they? “The video is unique and, honestly, was a life-changing experience,” Cyrus told E! Online. The clip certainly is unique , with flashes between memory and reality and surreality. The video opens with Zegers sketching a picture of a graveyard. Cyrus whispers, “Kevin, do you miss me?” And Zegers’ mind flashes to a memory of the two together. Then a car, seemingly driven by Cyrus, drives past him and he’s brought back to another memory of the two in a car on a sunny day during happier times. But the audience is abruptly brought back to Zegers’ reality when he sees Cyrus’ car hit by a truck as she pulls it out of a parking garage. (In June, Zegers told MTV News that his character was an employee of the garage.) Zegers rushes to the scene of the accident — only to see that no one is in the car, and that Cyrus (or her ghost) is running away from the crash. They lock eyes, which conjures a memory of the two taking snapshots on the beach. We’re then transported back to reality as he chases down his Miley figment, and the two walk hand in hand until he kisses her. More memories flash, and Zegers sees Cyrus everywhere. Is she real? Is she even alive? Is Kevin wishing he still had his love? The video ends with a shot of a camera displaying a photo of the pair — but Cyrus’ image fades out, leaving Zegers alone. Back in June, Zegers told MTV about some of the clip’s specifics. “[My character is] a parking attendant and he sees Miley’s character drive by and he sort of goes into a dream sequence, which is a majority of the video,” he said. “And then something dramatic happens at the end. It’s not all the making out, but there’s a car accident at the end. So there were a lot of stunts.” What do you think of the video for “The Big Bang”? Let us know in the comments!
