Miley Cyrus’ Can’t Be Tamed debuts at #3, behind Drake’s Thank Me Later. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Guess who’s back? Eminem is notching his sixth #1 album in a row with Recovery , which sold more than 741,000 copies last week. Those numbers dwarfed the figures for the all of the rest of the top 10 on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, as Slim Shady put up the best first-week numbers since 2008, far surpassing year’s other big debuts (Drake, Lady Antebellum, Sade). Proving once again that despite the album’s early leak, his fans will still come out to support the Detroit MC, Em’s massive haul pushes last week’s #1, Drake ‘s Thank Me Later down to #2. Sales for Drake’s debut cratered by 65 percent to 157,000, but the melodic Young Money MC still passed the gold mark in just two weeks, according to numbers provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Miley Cyrus had a rough landing for her more mature Can’t Be Tamed, which comes in at #3 on sales of 102,000, less than half of what 2008′s Breakout did in its debut week (371,000). And though he still hasn’t reached his goal of snagging a #1 debut on the U.S. charts, metal legend Ozzy Osbourne ‘s latest solo effort, Scream, lands at #4 after moving 81,000 copies. It’s followed at #6 by the chart bow from the Roots ‘ long-in-the-works How I Got Over (51,000). In a relatively slow week on the charts, the rest of the top 10 include: Now 34 (#5, 55,000), Jack Johnson ‘s To the Sea (#7, 44,000), Justin Bieber ‘s My World 2.0 (#8, 43,000), Sarah McLachlan ‘s Laws of Illusion (#9, 38,000) and the soundtrack to “Eclipse” (#10, 38,000). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ‘ Mojo crashes down nine spots in week two to #11, as sales dipped by 74 percent to 33,000. After 24 weeks in the top 10, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now has dropped to #12 on sales of 32,000. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera ‘s Bionic continues to struggle, as the singer’s latest slips out of the top 10 after just three weeks, dropping to #22 as sales trailed off by 54 percent to 18,000. One of Aguilera’s collaborators, singer Sia , debuts at #37 with We Are Born (11,000), while soul mama Macy Gray is right behind at #38 with Sellout (11,000). As the world marked the one-year anniversary of his death, Michael Jackson ‘s Number Ones collection rockets up more than 50 spots to #42 on sales of just under 10,000 (one of several Jackson titles to march back up the charts this week). M?tley Cr?e singer Vince Neil comes in at #47 with his solo covers album, Tattoos & Tequila, a title that might seem unfortunate given his arrest for suspected DUI this week in Las Vegas. Over on the iTunes charts, Eminem holds down both #1 slots, topping the singles tally with the Rihanna duet “Love the Way You Lie” and the albums chart, after just missing the top spot last week following just one day on sale. Drake trades spots on the album list, dropping down to #2 as Cyrus settles in at #3, followed by the Roots, Johnson, Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals, Osbourne, “Eclipse,” McLachlan and B.o.B’s B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. (iTunes does not release sales figures.) The former #1 on the iTunes singles charts, Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” slips to #2, followed by B.o.B.’s “Airplanes,” Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire,” Usher’s “OMG” and newcomer Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me.” The top 10 is filled out with Jason Derulo’s “Ridin’ Solo,” Em’s “Not Afraid,” Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” and Drake’s “Find Your Love.” Eminem may be able to hold the Billboard crown for another cycle, as next week’s contenders include The-Dream, 3OH!3 and Scissor Sisters. Miley Cyrus Says ‘I’m A Huge Fan Of Michael Jackson’

‘Not enough people told him [how great he was],’ Cyrus declares of the late King of Pop. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Much like Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus found fame as a child star. So, on the one-year anniversary of the King of Pop’s untimely death, the teen queen reflected on the man who paved the way for the pop stars who followed him. Cyrus wished more people had shared with him how much they appreciated what he did during his life. “It’s just crazy again with the media and all that. Nobody ever wrote an article just to say, ‘Hey, Michael, we really appreciate what you do!’ ” she told MTV News. “I wish I would have had the opportunity [to tell him how I felt about him when he was alive].” Cyrus added that people tend to remember how great an artist was when they have already passed. “Not enough people told him [how great he was] and I think it’s sad that you have to wait till it’s too late,” she added. “But I think he knows.” The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer was never able to meet Jackson and tell him how she felt, but she did pay tribute to him in her own way. During a recent appearance on “Good Morning America,” she changed the Jay-Z line in “Party in the U.S.A.” to reference MJ. Also, there was one other time that really stood out to her. “I’m a huge fan of Michael Jackson. When I met Lady Gaga I was wearing a Michael Jackson T-shirt and, for me, that was completely surreal — because the female artist that inspired me and the male artist that inspired me is a lot of Lady Gaga and a lot of Michael Jackson,” she explained. “And a little bit of a mix so that picture [in the MJ T-shirt meeting Gaga] means a lot to me. Again, I think God works in mysterious ways and had me wear that for a reason.” MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don’t miss the one-hour special “Michael Jackson’s Influence on Music,” airing Friday at 6:30 p.m. on MTV. ‘I think she’s always herself to the full,’ singer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Miley Cyrus might be pals with pop stars like Justin Bieber and she might make pop albums, but she says that when she goes home at night, pop is the last thing she listens to. Unless, that is, you’re talking about Lady Gaga, in which case she’s all about The Fame Monster. “Huge fan! That’s my pop guilty pleasure. I love Lady Gaga ,” Cyrus recently told MTV News. “I think she’s always herself to the full. I don’t see anyone trying to put together her stuff — she does it herself. She’s very creative, I think, just taking that upon yourself and knowing that the only way it’s going to be done the way you want it to be is to be heavily involved.” Cyrus admits that she really loves Gaga’s whole image; it’s not just about the music. “Even though she’s a pop artist, I look at her videos and I don’t see a squeaky pop singer or perky all the time,” she explained. “Her stuff means real things, so she’s cool. I like her.” Not only does Cyrus admire Gaga, she also recently revealed her love for the late Michael Jackson . But that’s pretty much where the pop music love begins and ends. “People are always like, ‘What do you mean you don’t listen to pop music and you’re a pop artist?’ But there’s something about performing to those dance vibes that is so much fun,” she said. “I work so much, so I like really chill [music] or just rock, you know, real, real stuff. But on my record I like dancing. I like performing pop music.” What do you think of Miley’s comments about Gaga? Tell us in the comments! ‘It’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back,’ she says of her new album. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Miley Cyrus has always been about girl power. Her tracks like “7 Things” and “The Climb” may at first glance seem like party anthems or weepy ballads, but she thinks that upon closer inspection her lyrics empower young women. And she says the tracks on her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, are no different. “I think ‘Tamed’ does it the best, and ‘Liberty Walk,’ ” she told MTV News. “It’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that’s really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, ‘No, you can’t do something,’ or, ‘You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this.’ ” Her advice? Try to see what advice makes the most sense for your life. “Really think about what you want to do for the rest of your life,” the 17-year-old said. “There’s a short amount of time, when you think about it, and no day needs to go by wasted.” As for “Liberty Walk,” Cyrus said she tried to combine a very serious topic with a lighter sound. “I wrote it for women that feel like they’re stuck in abusive relationships, but it’s a dance song,” she said. “So you think that must be kind of a sad ballad, but it’s a party song. … It’s about breaking free.” Which new Miley Cyrus song is your favorite? Miley Cyrus: ‘I’m Not A Rapper’

‘It’s speaking to the music,’ Cyrus says of her ‘rhythmic’ stylings on Can’t Be Tamed. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News In addition to adopting an edgier look and sound on her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, Miley Cyrus is also trying out a new way of expressing herself. On tracks like “Liberty Walk,” Cyrus raps — but please, don’t call MC an MC. “I call it more of a spoken, rhythmic [singing style],” she explained. “I’m not a rap type. Maybe a little bit. It’s speaking to the music, but if I say that I’m a rapper, I’m going to be like, ‘I’m not a rapper.’ I’ve got no flow in that way. I’ve got no swag.” Her “Can’t Be Tamed” single, however, did just get a hip-hop makeover, courtesy of Lil Jon, who Cyrus said took the track to a whole new level. “He’s sick,” she said. “I love him, because he just made this song. It was already something that set me apart, but it just [became something more with him]. You know, the fact that he respects my music and we are completely opposite styles, and the fact that he can be like, ‘OK, this is a good song,’ it just shows you don’t have to be a certain age, gender [to like it]. “It’s a dance song,” she added about the remix. “It’s a party song, and he’s awesome. I like how he’s one person when he’s chilling in the studio. I’ve never seen someone flip on and off. He’s got, like, double personas … like so wired. It’s cool.” Although she once admitted she has never heard a Jay-Z song — despite her Jay-referencing line in “Party in the U.S.A.” — she does have a few other favorite MCs, including Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman. “I love it,” she said of the two rappers. “I don’t know any of the songs. They all blend in. I can’t really break it up, but I like it. But I’m not a rapper.” What do you think of Miley’s “spoken, rhythmic” style on “Can’t Be Tamed?” Let us know in the comments! During six-song set in L.A., singer speaks her mind and performs ‘Who Owns My Heart’ for the first time. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus performs at the House of Blues in Los Angeles Photo: MTV Her new album is available now. She has a brash new attitude to go along with it. And both of those things were on display Monday night (June 21), as Miley Cyrus took to the House of Blues in Los Angeles for a live-streaming concert called, appropriately enough, “Miley Cyrus: Live in L.A.” Her six-song set — streamed on MTV.com — showcased songs from her just-released Can’t Be Tamed and gave the 17-year-old Cyrus a chance to get a bit rebellious, speaking her mind on a host of topics (including abusive relationships and gay rights), prowling the stage with purpose and even working a profanity or two into the mix. She kicked things off with the title track from Tamed, a strutting, steamy thing that saw her spitting lyrics, tossing her hair, popping her hips and even re-enacting the faux kiss she shared with a female dancer earlier this month on “Britain’s Got Talent” (though, perhaps in the spirit of equal opportunity, she also shared a fake smooch with a male dancer). But it wasn’t all sass. At song’s end, Cyrus showed off her pipes a bit too, extending a “knoooooow” to glorious lengths. That was followed by another Tamed track, “Who Owns My Heart” (which Cyrus introduced by telling the rapt audience that it was the first time she’d ever performed the track live), which galloped along on a shuffling beat and was given added punch thanks to the addition of a live band. There was some heavy panting from Cyrus and a big-time chorus — “Who owns my heart/ Is it love, or is it art?” — that had the crowd shouting along. Loudly. She changed things up a bit with “Liberty Walk,” a song she co-wrote and dedicated to “women who are stuck in abusive relationships … to empower them.” The song — which features a stomping beat and even a bit of rapping from MC — also gave her the chance to slip a couple of “sh–s” by the censors too … much to the delight of the audience. Up next was her cover of Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” which featured some genuinely windswept guitar work, but not Poison main man Bret Michaels (the two performed the tune together last week on “Good Morning America” ) though she did dedicate the song to him and urged the audience to “pray” for his continued health (she also said the song was her mom’s favorite). “Rose” was followed by the anthemic “Robot,” which saw the reappearance of her backup dancers, and then the MTV.com live stream ended with “Heart Beats for Love,” a power-packed ballad that Cyrus introduced by saying that she wrote it “mostly for my gay fans,” adding that she abhorred the fact that, “We have people on this earth who hate someone for loving another.” She then launched herself into the song, eyes closed, making a pair of peace signs with her hands, and by the time the tune had reached its crescendo, everyone in the audience was doing the same, showing (much like everything else on this night) not just the power and confidence of Cyrus’ new songs, but the sway she holds over her fans too. Sway she’s apparently decided to use for good. And, really, that speaks a lot louder than some fake girl-on-girl action any day of the week. What did you think of Miley’s six-song set? ‘It’s really showing her personality break from Disney,’ fan says after Can’t Be Tamed concert. By Joel Hanek Miley Cyrus performs during her Live-Stream on Monday Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Miley Cyrus took over the Internet on Monday night, when MTV live-streamed her live performance of six songs from her new album, Can’t Be Tamed. And though the 17-year-old has been showing off her edgier look and sound, the crowd at Los Angeles’ House of Blues remain stalwart in their fandom. Kelly Rindonde, a fan who traveled all the way from Philadelphia for the show, is enjoying the new Cyrus. “She’s all grown up,” she told MTV News after the show. “She definitely gave us a new side of Miley that was really exciting.” “I like all her new music; it’s really a bit edgier,” Steven Mango agreed. “It’s really showing her personality break from Disney and everything.” Many fans think that her evolution from Disney princess to pop star is indicative that Miley is isn’t going anywhere soon — and her performance even drew comparisons to other established legends. “Her dancing [is] something Michael Jackson would probably be impressed by,” Alex Satlan observed. Tetris Kelly said Cyrus’ performance was reminiscent of another contemporary artist, particularly during a cover that wasn’t aired in the live stream. “By far my favorite moment of the show tonight was when she did ‘I Love Rock ‘n Roll,’ because, to me, it was a tip off to Britney … and that’s why I like Miley. She’s like the new age Britney.” While Miley may be following in Britney’s footsteps by sharing onstage kisses with her fellow female and male dancers, other fans were pleasantly surprised that the singer was not completely uninhibited. “We expected something that was going to be raunchy,” Pam Giannino said. “Everybody’s been putting the hype up, ‘Don’t go to this because she’s going to be provocative.’ It wasn’t. It was pretty awesome. She did a really good job.” What did you think of Miley’s performance on Monday? Share your reviews in the comments. ‘It’s pretty cool that now I can warm up playing my own songs,’ Cyrus says of having her songs added to the game. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News This is a big week for Miley Cyrus. After dropping her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, and performing a live-streamed show to celebrate it on Monday, she’s giving fans a glimpse of what it’s like to be her with Tuesday’s release of some of her songs to the “Rock Band” store. Actually, Cyrus has long been a fan of the game, which she said offers her the chance to practice while on the road. “I sat in front of the TV 90 percent of the tour, just playing ‘Rock Band’,” Cyrus confessed to MTV News. “It’s pretty cool that now I can warm up playing my own songs on ‘Rock Band’ and then go do it in real life. So it’s pretty rad. It’s a better warm-up.” This will mark Cyrus’ “Rock Band” debut, with five songs made available for download in the “Rock Band” music store. The “Miley Cyrus Pack 01″ will feature five of Miley’s fan favorites, including “Can’t Be Tamed” from her new album, as well as “7 Things” and “Fly on the Wall” from 2008′s Breakout, and “Start All Over” and “See You Again” from her 2007 debut, Meet Miley Cyrus. “I can’t wait for my fans to be able to download and play five of my songs in ‘Rock Band,’ ” Cyrus said back when it was announced that she’d be joining the ranks of Green Day and the Beatles in the “Rock Band” world. “I love that people can rock out with me and play my new song, ‘Can’t Be Tamed’!” Will you be playing Miley Cyrus “Rock Band”? ‘Nashville is really being rebuilt, and everybody’s been so wonderful,’ Swift tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News On Tuesday night (June 22), Taylor Swift will be one of the many Nashville superstars on hand for Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery . The singer, who lives in the area, will join the night’s hosts, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill , as they raise money to help the area devastated by floods earlier this spring. Swift said she and her band weren’t immune to the destruction. “The flood definitely affected all of Nashville. You know, for me, the fact that there were members of my band that lost their homes really affected me, because those are my friends,” she told MTV News. “Those are the people I call up as soon as we get home. The fact that it affected my band, that’s the most directly it affected me.” While some of her bandmates have struggled to get their feet back on the ground, Swift said, “Thankfully, my home wasn’t damaged, but seeing people that I’ve known for years trying to figure out where they’re going to stay, it was really painful to watch. Nashville is really being rebuilt, and everybody’s been so wonderful.” Swift, who donated $500,000 to help the area back in May, will be joined by fellow teen queen Miley Cyrus , who had her big Can’t Be Tamed coming-out party Monday night, as well as country stars like Carrie Underwood, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride. The show is set to take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Funds will go to the Community Foundation, which provides philanthropic services in Middle Tennessee.
