Timbaland Brings Pop And Rock To Shock Value II

Super-producer’s new album features guest spots from everyone from Katy Perry to Miley Cyrus to Daughtry. By Shaheem Reid Timbaland Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Timbaland is back for another round of mayhem with his new album, Shock Value II. Hitting stores December 8, the album branches out from strictly hip-hop and features pop stars such as Katy Perry , Miley Cyrus and his good friend Justin Timberlake , along with rockers like Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, the Fray and Daughtry . However, Drake is featured on the album’s next single, “Say Something,” about a famous man who makes plenty of money, but neglects to spend enough quality time with his girl. “What’s a star when his most important fan is missing?” Drake raps. “We can work it out,” he sings on the chorus. On the track, Timbaland describes his relationship with his woman as a “catastrophe,” however the beat is buoyant — “Say Something” is built for the party. “Meet in tha Middle” is a bit more optimistic, with Tim singing, “We gotta meet in the middle” on the hook. You’ll recognize Brandy’s vocals holding down the background duties, but you definitely won’t believe your ears when she comes in on a guest verse. Credited under the moniker Bran Nu, the veteran singer introduces an MC alter-ego. “I been giving you more than a little, had the ball then you double-dribbled,” she raps. “You don’t listen, I don’t never get my point across/ I washed your dirty draws, you out with dirty broads/ You did me dirty dawg, cause you’se a dirty dog/ It’s a curtain call and I ain’t mad at all.” “Undertow” uses piano to bring a smoothed-out, midtempo feel to accompany the vocals of Esthero and the Fray as they sing about not missing out on a great opportunity. Meanwhile, on “If We Ever Meet Again,” Tim and Katy Perry see each other in a bar and the attraction is instant and mutual — but they’re both too shy to make that love connection. Shock Value II is kicked off by “Morning After Dark” — a track inspired by “Twilight” — featuring Nelly Furtado and Tim’s new artist SoShy. Miley Cyrus (file) Photo: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images Miley Cyrus may have shut down Disneyland for her Sweet 16 last November, but this year, for her 17th birthday party, the singer kept it decidedly more low-key. Cyrus, who turns 17 on Monday (November 23), celebrated the milestone on November 18 in New York with her friends, family and rumored beau Liam Hemsworth at the Canal Room. The party had an ’80s theme, complete with a performance by the cast of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages.” “The whole thing was a surprise,” a source told People magazine about the bash. Even the cake fit in with the party’s theme. It was designed by Buddy Valastro, star of TLC’s “Cake Boss.” “They didn’t want a girly-girl cake,” Valastro said. The vanilla cake was inspired by Madonna’s penchant for wearing lace in the ’80s and was accented in Cyrus’ favorite color, purple. “It totally fit the theme,” Valastro added. “It was really awesome.” When Cyrus turned 15, she also had an ’80s-themed bash, in Nashville. “She loves the ’80s,” her mother, Tish, told People. “The fashion, the big hair — she thinks it’s so funky.” No word on what gifts Cyrus received on her big day, but last year she received a Maltipoo puppy, a cross between a Maltese and a poodle. “He’s precious. … We’re just excited,” she told MTV News at her big party at Disneyland, where pals like Demi Lovato, Tyra Banks, David Archuleta and ex-boyfriend Justin Gaston helped the singer ring in a new year. Cyrus was not on the bus that crashed in Virginia Friday morning. By Gil Kaufman Miley Cyrus Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage One person was killed when one of Miley Cyrus ‘ tour buses crashed on an Interstate in rural Virginia on Friday (November 20). According to The Associated Press, Cyrus was not on the bus that crashed at around 8:15 a.m. Virginia State Police said one unidentified person was killed when the bus overturned on Interstate 85, about 40 miles south of Richmond. Multiple sources have identified the deceased as the driver of the bus; the driver’s name had not been released at press time. Another one of the nine passengers on the bus carrying Cyrus’ production crew was injured in the incident and transported to a local hospital in undisclosed condition. TMZ reported that the bus was one of four in a tour caravan carrying the 16-year-old singer. Officials told the site that the roads were slick at the time of the accident, due to overnight rains, but that it was unknown at press time if the driver died before or after the bus went off the road and overturned. Cyrus is slated to play a show on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina. A spokesperson for the singer could not be reached for comment at press time, but a source close to Cyrus confirmed that she was not on the bus that crashed. Bill Douglas, 53, killed in crash while driving one of Cyrus’ buses Friday morning. By Gil Kaufman Miley Cyrus Photo: Evan Agostini/Getty Images Miley Cyrus issued a statement on Friday afternoon (November 20) about the death of Bill Douglas, the driver who died in an early morning accident in Virginia while driving one of Cyrus’ tour buses. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill ‘Uncle Bill’ Douglas,” reads the statement issued on behalf of the Cyrus family. “Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will truly be missed.” According to a statement released by the Virginia State Police, officials are investigating the crash that occurred on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddle County, Virginia, on Friday morning that took the life of Douglas, 53, who was behind the wheel of one of the four tour buses in Cyrus’ entourage. Cyrus was not on that bus, which held nine other crew members who were able to exit the vehicle through the front windshield. Douglas, an Austin, Texas native, died at the scene, according to police. The bus was ferrying members of the singer’s production crew to a Cyrus show in Greensboro, North Carolina, scheduled for Sunday when it ran off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned onto its right side at around 8:15 a.m. Crew member Mary Zilio, 48, a native of Canada, was hurt in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed minor injuries. Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash. TMZ obtained two 911 calls made from the scene of the accident which seem to indicate that Douglas was suffering from cardiac arrest. Whether his heart failed before or after the accident has yet to be determined. Cyrus’ show in Greensboro on Sunday will go on as scheduled according to a spokesperson. Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus Says Co-Star Liam Hemsworth Is Her Best Friend

‘I’ve never gotten along with someone so well,’ she tells Seventeen of ‘The Last Song’ star. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in “The Last Song” Photo: Walt Disney Pictures Miley Cyrus isn’t exactly denying rumors that she’s dating Liam Hemsworth , her Australian co-star in “The Last Song” (and the guy who may or may not have encouraged her to quit Twitter ), but the soon-to-be 17-year-old singer/actress says that they’re definitely BFFs. “It sucks when your personal life becomes public,” she said in the December/January issue of Seventeen magazine. “So I’m finding ways to make my personal and private life more of my life — which is one of the reasons why I deleted my Twitter. We’ve decided that any type of relationship that we have, we will always just keep it very DL. First and foremost, we are best friends, so that’s what I tell people all the time.” Whether or not they are dating, she did say that Hemsworth has the ability to just make her feel really good about herself. “All you want is for one person to say, ‘You did a really good job today.’ Or ‘You look really beautiful,’ or ‘I was really moved by that.’ You just want one person to make you feel good about something you’re doing,” she explained. “Liam has been a big part of that.” Cyrus said that Liam’s support on the set of “Last Song,” which opens in April 2010 , helped her take on a more mature role than her “Hannah Montana” body of work. “I’ve never gotten along with someone so well,” she said. “I was a little anxious about making this movie; I wanted everything to be perfect. To go on set and feel insecure was a totally new element for me. But he felt the same way. He admitted his insecurities, and it was really nice to have someone who understands me for once.” This nurturing work relationship almost never happened, Cyrus revealed. When she heard a rumor that he didn’t really want the role, she was ready to believe the worst of him at their first audition. “I’m thinking, ‘Here’s this guy, he’s amazingly good-looking, super-confident, and he doesn’t realize how blessed he is to be in this room, because I know how blessed I am,’ ” she recalled. “Then I started talking with him, and he was just the most genuinely precious, sweet person. And the second audition comes around, and the chemistry was instant. From the time he walked in that door and we saw each other again, we [both] lit up, and we were excited to get to work and learn together.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Last Song.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Miley Cyrus Says She Has No Interest In ‘Twilight’

‘I don’t want anything to do with it,’ pop star says of vampire series. By Nuzhat Naoreen Miley Cyrus Photo: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images With the release of “New Moon” just a few days away, “Twilight” mania seems to be taking over Hollywood. But at least one starlet wants nothing to do with the vampire craze. In a backstage interview at a show in Cleveland, Miley Cyrus told radio station Q92 that she’s neither Team Edward nor Team Jacob — in fact, she’s not even on team “Twilight.” The singer said that not only has she never watched the vampire flick, but she doesn’t plan to. “I’ve never seen it and nor will I ever,” Miley told surprised Q92 reporter Nikolina. The starlet went on to elaborate on what exactly it is about “Twilight” that offends her. “I don’t believe in it. I don’t like vampires. … I don’t like the wolf that pops out of the screen when I’m watching my TV at night. I don’t like it. I don’t want anything to do with it. I don’t like the shirts. I don’t like any of it,” she said. But Miley knows she’s in the minority when it comes to teenagers and the “Twilight” phenomenon: “I feel really lame because everyone’s, like, so excited, and I’m like, ‘Don’t even talk about it.’ ” Yet, as anti-”Twilight” as she may be, the “Hannah Montana” actress might just be forced to watch the series — if nothing more than for research. The singer recently signed up to work with “Twilight” producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey on “Wings,” a fantasy movie — which bears some resemblance to the vampire series — about a 15-year-old who becomes a fairy. It’s not the first time the Disney star has gone against a popular trend. The singer of “Party in the U.S.A.,” in which she claims a Jay-Z song helped ease her transition to L.A., recently admitted that she’s never actually heard Jay-Z and that she doesn’t really listen to pop music. Miley, who was originally a huge proponent of the social-networking tool Twitter, also prompted a lot of chatter after she suddenly left the site and told a Chicago morning show that “Twitter should just be banned from this universe.” Related Videos ‘New Moon Revealed’ Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus: ‘I’ve Never Heard A Jay-Z Song’

November 6, 2009 by

‘I don’t listen to pop music,’ singer says when asked about ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ line. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus Photo: James Devaney/WireImage In her hit single “Party in the U.S.A.,” Miley Cyrus famously claims that a Jay-Z song saved her life (or at least made her taxi ride from LAX bearable). But which one of Hov’s hits is she singing about? Turns out, she doesn’t know. Because she’s never actually heard a Jay-Z song. That’s what we learned in a new interview posted on Cyrus’ MileyWorld Web site , in which the singer — who, it should be noted, is dressed like Pocahontas (it was backstage, before her Halloween concert in Louisville, Kentucky) — was asked by a reporter which Jay-Z tune inspired the line in “Party.” And, well, let’s just say she answered his question honestly. “I don’t know, I didn’t write the song, so I have no idea,” she said. “Honestly, I picked that song because I needed something to go with my clothing line. I didn’t write it [and] I didn’t expect it to be popular, originally. It was just something that I wanted to do and I needed some songs and it turned out for the best.” She’s correct, she didn’t write “Party” (a songwriting team of Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly and Jessica Cornish did), but surely — as the rather dumbfounded reporter asked in his follow-up — she can agree with the song’s sentiment. She’s got to be a Jay-Z fan, right? “I’ve never heard a Jay-Z song. I don’t listen to pop music,” Cyrus answered. “['Party in the U.S.A.'] is not even my style of music. I’m really blessed for it to have done as well as it has. Totally blessed. God has definitely put me in an amazing position with amazing people.” Undoubtedly reeling from the magnitude of that claim, the reporter decided to shift gears, jokingly asking Cyrus if she has any plans to cover her father’s massive 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” But Miley wasn’t ready to let the Jay-Z thing drop. “No, no thank you,” she said. “That’s like covering a Jay-Z song. That’s not going to happen.” Related Artists Miley Cyrus Jay-Z
