Miley Cyrus said, “Michael Jackson was my inspiration. Love and blessings.” John Mayer posted, “Dazed in the studio. A major strand of our cultural DNA has left us. RIP MJ. I think we’ll mourn his loss as well as the loss of ourselves as children listening to Thriller on the record player.” “If it were not for Michael Jackson I would not be where or who I am today,” Ludacris wrote on his Twitter page. “His Music and Legacy will live on Forever. But recently, rumors began to circulate that 16-year-old Lovato was dating Miley Cyrus’ 20-year-old brother Trace, of Metro Station . Although she attempted to clear up the rumor on her Twitter page , we wanted to get the lowdown straight from Lovato herself. “I’m single! Yeah, I’m definitely single,” she told MTV News. When asked who she would love to date, she left the answer open: “I can’t say! With that rumor cleared up, we wanted to see what other kinds of crazy stuff Lovato might have read about herself online. She admitted that she doesn’t know what people have to say about her, because she doesn’t read that stuff to begin with. “I try not to listen to rumors,” she said. “Rumors are stupid. They’re not true. I mean, of course you get stuff like that all the time. You read it online, and you’re just like, ‘Why did they even make that up?’ But, I mean, I don’t really remember them, ’cause they’re not important to me.” But there is one person she wishes people would stop writing about: her little sister and “Desperate Housewives” actress 7-year-old Madison De La Garza. “She’s great. After news broke of their reported altercation in Toronto over the weekend, celebrities began reacting to the news that Will’s manager, Polo Molina, allegedly hit Perez after he called Will an anti-gay slur . Aubrey O’Day, who has been regularly bashed by Hilton , spoke to MTV News about the incident and actually seems to be on Hilton’s side, at least in principle. “I’m sure as everyone knows there’ve been many times I wish I could slap Perez, but you don’t, ’cause at the end of the day, he’s doing a job. You’re doing a job, and there’s a place for everyone in this industry, good or bad.” Nick Cannon , who recently got into his own online war of words with Eminem , isn’t taking sides in this beef, but does have some advice for Hilton. “It’s funny, ’cause I know both of them; they’re both good people in their own right,” he told MTV News. “Some people don’t like Perez, but Perez is very opinionated, and it’s kind of like one of those things — sometimes you got to watch your mouth. But violence is never the answer. Why everyone bringing Will.I.Am into it? He ain’t the one that punched Perez. The entourage can always get you in trouble. See, Perez has to get himself a more gangsta entourage. All controversy is good controversy for him.” Some celebrities think that Hilton’s negative coverage of celebrities like Tila Tequila and John Mayer , and the words he used when speaking to Will.I.Am the night of the incident, led to the confrontation. “When you get rich saying hateful things sometimes you ask for it,” said “Transformers” star Josh Duhamel, who is married to Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie , told “Entertainment Tonight.” “It’s an unfortunate incident, and I hope it goes away.” Kelly Clarkson , who was also in Toronto over the weekend for the Much Music awards, commented about the incident on the Canadian cable network’s show “MOD.” “When you dish that much out, you have to be able to take somethin’,” she said, joking that she was sending flowers to Will’s manager, Molina, who was officially charged with assault on Monday. And after noting that violence isn’t the right way to solve problems, she added, “I’ve been hit in the face before, and I didn’t cry about it.” On his Twitter , Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy wrote a post that seemed to support Will.I.Am, at first: “Will.I.Am-1, Perez-0. It’s about f—ing time.” But he later diplomatically added, “Violence is not the answer. Trust me, been through it. The fact is, not everyone is going to take being called a vulgar expletive lightly.” Frequent tweeter John Mayer instigated quite an epic Twitter conversation with Perez about the incident, first criticizes him for exhibiting “a profound lack of control” and then offering to teach him the Israeli martial art Krav Maga. “You know how to find me,” Mayer wrote. “Words have cause and effect, even if the effect is wrong.” Among the several celebrities who have come to Perez’s side are Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. “Speidi is never buying anything black eyed pees related!” Spencer tweeted . “Not that I did in the past but now I really won’t! What a coward!” Heidi tweeted Perez on Monday morning, asking, “Are you ok? I am praying for you!! According to reports, the JoBros played songs both old and new, including cuts from their new album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, which was just released last week. But the performance of one new song in particular really drove the crowd wild. For “Before the Storm,” a duet between Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus from Lines …, Nick was joined onstage by none other than Cyrus. The performance comes amid recent rumblings — including statements from Miley and Nick’s older brother, Joe — that the teens have started dating again. Nick strummed the acoustic guitar while Miley, dressed in a white dress and boots, hit the stage with her on-again, off-again beau. When Larry got to talking about who the guys were dating, Joe remained mum on specifics, simply confirming that he does have a girlfriend. As Larry pressed on, wondering if Joe’s lady love, Camilla Belle, is as famous as Nick’s girlfriend, he surprised everyone by saying, “I don’t think anybody is as famous as Miley Cyrus.” Reps for both artists had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment at press time. Kevin tried to smooth things over by telling Larry the guys have never been shy about their dating lives. “For all of us, we’ve always said we always date,” he explained, while Nick looked visibly uncomfortable with the topic, stating he wants to keep things private. Kevin added, “For us, it is kind of odd to have people all around the world so concerned with a 16-year-old’s love life.” But Kevin couldn’t avoid questions about his own love life. “Yes, always dating, been together with someone for a very long time and very happy,” Kevin said of his girlfriend, Danielle DeLeasa. When asked if he’d marry her, he said, “We’ll see. Aside from hanging with Nick Jonas and shooting the film, earlier this week, she hit up a local seafood restaurant to play a secret mini-concert. “She had a hoodie on,” recalled Ray Rogers, who runs StingRay’s restaurant on Tybee Island, where Miley performed. “She sat at a table. She was with a girlfriend. She ordered snow crabs and cheese sticks. One of the tables next to her offered to buy them food. They decided to leave, and they walked by the music and went to the parking lot. She turned around and went back up to the stage.” For the surprise performance, Miley played two tunes: the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill duet “It’s Your Love” and an original song so new that Miley referred to her notes for the lyrics. “The place started filling up with people standing and watching,” Rogers said. “She played two songs to a standing ovation and a screaming crowd. But the guys have proven them wrong, drawing crowds of screaming girls at every appearance, selling out their summer tour in a hot minute and getting people buzzing about their new album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times (out Tuesday). “I think in that period, we went through a lot, both in our personal lives and musically,” Nick told MTV News of the stretch between albums. “And also we had a lot of music in our hearts we just wanted to share. We’re really happy with this album.” This time around, Nick, Joe and Kevin relied heavily on their personal lives when it came time to write the tracks. Fox’s 2009 Teen Choice Awards were announced on Monday (June 15), and the vampire flick scored 12 total nominations, including nods for Drama, Romance and Actor and Actress in a Drama. The show airs on Monday, August 10. Following closely behind “Twilight” with 10 nominations each were “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” “Gossip Girl” and Miley Cyrus . The Jonas Brothers , who are set to host the show on August 10, notched nine nominations in categories such as Love Song and Breakout Show.
